For today's dose of recovery fashion, I don a salmon-pink gown worn for my exam at the surgeon’s office, and a Chai pendant from my mom. In Hebrew, Chai means life, and I am taking in all the life-affirming symbolism I can.
Also: any thoughts on why the medical garments we wear at doctors’ offices are called gowns? This seems a little cruel when contrasted with other meanings of the word, with what a gown can be, which is something one might wear to an event where candles illuminate fancy table-clothed tables and cocktails and hors' d'oeuvres delight in abundance.
(I am very excited for the day I wear that other kind of gown again! But for now, this will do.)
