It’s not uncommon that I visit multiple doctors a week. Over the years I’ve learned to accommodate for the energy and time this takes as best as I can—but when it comes to post-op appointments, especially in light of complications, these visits can drain the spirit right out of me.
This past week I visited four doctors’ offices. Here I am mid-week looking mighty tired against a tiring backdrop. But this was me on Wednesday.
On Wednesday I didn’t know that good news was coming. I wouldn’t find out on this day, but on the next: that the complications stalling the reconstruction process are on the mend, that the pain is actually a positive sign, and that through all of this, investment in true rest (which still too often feels disorienting and counterintuitive) has gifted my body what it needs to heal. I am on my way!
